ESC stories. Cihat in Poznan

Hello Logos Family;
First of all, I would like to thank that you made me a part of this family even if it’s a 6-months adventure. I've learned so much I can use at every moment of my life. It wasn’t difficult to adapt to Poland life and its culture for me, of course, thanks to Logos NGO 🙂

With a nice start, I've been to a kindergarten in Poznan together with other Turkish volunteers. We tried to introduce everything about Turkish culture to children.

One of my biggest tasks at Logo NGO was to conduct interviews. We were getting applications to participate in projects like training courses, youth exchange, seminar, etc.
I supported my team in the selection stage of participants for different projects by organizing skype interviews. I had an opportunity to participate in one of the projects like this as well. Thus, I went to Paris, France in order to attend to project called ''Hate Speech'. I have briefly expressed my experiences to you.

Once again I would like to thank the Logos family for the opportunity to have these beautiful experiences.

Sincerely
Cihat TAŞCI

Actually, I have so many people I wanna say "thanks" but before everyone else, I wanna say that "I was very lucky to have you guys" to my EVS friends who are Fatma, Ilyas, Dicle, Cihat, Abdülkadir, Merve, Ozan, and Berk.
My EVS experience has changed the perspective of my life. Currently, I am stronger than I just came to Poland. I will stay keep in touch with Logo's family for the rest of my life.

Carpathian explore. Lviv, Ukraine, 2019

About the project

Youth Exchange “Carpathian Explore” brought 35 participants from 7 different countries together to share each country’s culture, cuisine and nature while exploring the nature and culture of the Ukrainian Carpathian mountains over a period of 8 days. It took place on 16-23 of July 2019 in Lviv and nearby Carpathian mountains. The project was hosted by Logos Ukraine.

Organizations shared the same need of involving participants more in their work for a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly society and saw that many young people lacked the understanding of the importance of taking care of nature. Through experience with being in nature, meeting people living close to nature every day and having a better understanding about tradition life, we as organizations believe it could help to meet these needs among the young people.

Aim and objectives

Aim of the project was for participants to learn more about each others cultures, traditions, cuisine and nature through outdoor experience. We set following objectives for the project :
- to promote intercultural exchange and awareness, and connect young people from differing national, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
-To learn about different European cultures, cuisine and nature
-To promote sustainable and ecological lifestyle
-To encourage active citizenship through learning about problems and challenges in different countries
-To fight negative stereotypes about various cultures
-To discuss the needs, problems and interests of young people from different cultures

We achieved these objectives by using non-formal learning methods, involving participants in planning, implementing and evaluation stages of the project.

Being millennials, we are raised in this society where social media, internet-of-things and innovative technologies are very important in our daily lives. How does this actually affect us and how are we dealing with it?
We are used to the fact that we can Google everything, which makes information easily accessible. But is all of this information honest and trustworthy? The availability of information and our fast-growing society puts also pressure on us to perform. On the one hand: this allows us to grow, which is great. On the other hand: how do we deal with this pressure?
During the exchange we focused on answering this question by providing participants with a ‘mental’ toolkit, and experiencing the topic from different viewpoints with the ultimate goal of empowering ourselves and the people around us.

Project Aim

We equipped youth between 20-30 years with tools to empower themselves on critical thinking and mental health. This resulted in more aware and knowledgeable youngsters
which went home with tools and ideas on critical thinking and mental health. They can apply these tools in their daily life and local organizations

Project objectives

- To introduce the topic of mental health
- To understand the power of critical thinking
- To recognize fake news and false information
- To equip participants with a set of practical tools to deploy critical thinking and mindfulness
- To test different mind growth techniques, such as yoga / pilates, mindfulness, bodymind connection, clean listening, meditation, sports, expressing emotions, and many more.
- To promote mental health and the use of positive psychology
- To learn from each other’s cultures
- To have fun!

Escape Game For Your Rights! Riga, Latvia, 2019

What was it about?

We made training course “Escape game for your rights!” in Riga, Latvia, on 06-15 of May, 2019. Project was implemented by the team of Logos Latvia and Logos Poland and funded by Latvian National Agency.

At this training course we had 21 young leaders and NGO activists working with youth, on 8 days long training course. Our aim was to raise awareness about Human rights in such topics as refugees and immigrants, gender equality and domestic violence and special needs. This was realised through constructing Human rights escape room, as well as understanding how to use it as a learning tool in order to create similar projects on Human rights back at local communities by youth and NGO workers who work with young people.

Following objectives were set for the project:

  • To spread ideas of human rights protection among participants, partner organisations and guests of the training course,
  • Equip youth workers and NGO workers who work with young people with tools and knowledge on how to organise escape rooms, to implement human rights education to diverse target groups
  • To create working tools which can be used in local communities
  • Demonstrate that dealing with human rights can be done in various ways through providing participants with ideas and methods on non-standard approach to human rights education
  • Bring an understanding of current challenges in the HR area through providing concrete examples, ideas and theoretical knowledge during project
  • To develop a network of youth workers and NGO workers who work with young people in EU who are ready to use quest rooms on human rights by giving them an opportunity to practice this approach and creating a good atmosphere for connection between participants
  • To raise awareness of human rights topics relating to refugees and immigrants; gender equality and domestic violence; citizens with special needs.

How did it go?

This project was very special for us as it was the first training course that we implemented in Latvia by Logos Latvia. The training course was delivered by trainers Emir Shevkiiev and Marko Boyko and it was organised by Jekaterina Orlova and her team.

At the project, we had a chance to build rooms in the building in the centre of Riga. Our participants built 3 great escape rooms and we invited local people to come and play. At the open event we had around 30 guests, who had a chance to learn and play at the same time.

The rooms that participants built:

FIRED

The educational goal of the room is to highlight gender-based workplace discrimination/harassment and gender-biases.

Main goal for players during the game is to collect evidence that a company is participating in unlawful gender-based discrimination by sneaking into the company office. And to find the key to get out of there within one hour by finding the extra set of keys inside the room.

Desrever Rorrim Yxalag (Reversed Mirror Galaxy)

Educational goal of the room is to give participants the experience of entering a new “culture” and its difficulties: new language, weird logics, new symbols, new way to communicate and a lot of “bureaucratic” procedures. We expect that people will be move sensitive towards the newcomers and more helpful when requested.

Main goal for players during the game is to find the procedure to get asylum and fulfil all tasks to get the final permit.

Classroom of special needs

Educational goal of this room is to let players experience the limitations of a disability. To do this each players gets a random limitation - reduced vision, movement, hearing or touch.

Main goal for players during the game is to escape from the classroom. That is hard to do with all the limitations set by the room, but if players manage to work as a team they will succeed!

Below you can directly access toolboxes on the rooms made by participants

In each "toolbox" you can find following information:

  • Explanation of what is the room about
  • Description of storyline and puzzles
  • Plan of the room
  • Pictures of the room

If you want to build a similar room, but have some questions, don't hesitate to write us [email protected]
