Soft skills for group leaders. Poznan, Poland, 2019

About the project

Soft skills for group leaders was a training course held in Poznan, Poland between 4th and 12th of January 2019. This training course was hosted by Logos Polska, which created it together with TURKIYE AVRUPA VAKFI.

Soft skills enable people to effectively navigate their environment and at the same time work well with others. They help to perform well and achieve their goals with complementing hard skills. However, traditionally, people don't receive adequate soft skills training - either during vocational instruction or as part of on- the- job training. Ironically, for many people, the so-called soft skills are often some of the hardest skills to develop. Like hard skills, soft skills require a lot of practice to make a person really skilled at using them. Unlike hard skills, there are no exams to prove that you can do them. It is measured personally by how well a person manages the relationships with those around him/her.

Objectives:

  • To get  participants familiar with the current concept of soft skills, different groups of soft skills, and their importance in personal and career development
  • To develop  and  improve specific soft skills
  • To inspire the participants to promote  soft skills development among their colleagues,  youth target groups and other youth NGOs

EXIT for human right! Kyiv, Ukraine, 2018

What was it about?

We made training course “EXIT for human right” in Kyiv, Ukraine, on 09-18 of November, 2018. Logos and Soeholm 4H (Denmark) implemented this project, which was funded by Danish National Agency.

At this training course we had 24 young leaders and NGO activists working with youth, on 8 days long training course. Our aim was to raise awareness about Human rights in such topics as children rights, migration and life of people with limited abilities through making Human rights escape room, as well as understanding how to use escape rooms as a learning tool in order to create similar projects on Human rights back at local communities.

At this training course we made human rights escape room in spheres of discrimination of people based on children rights, migration and life of people with limited abilities.

Following objectives were set for the project:

  • To spread ideas of human rights protection among participants, partner organisations and guests of the training course
  • Provide youth workers and NGO workers with tools and knowledge on how to organise escape rooms, which will bring ideas of human rights protection to greater amount of people
  • To create working tools which can be used in local communities
  • To show that dealing with human rights can be done in various ways through providing participants with ideas and methods on non-standard approach to human rights education
  • To develop a network of youth workers and NGO workers in Europe who are ready to do quest rooms on human rights by giving them an opportunity to practice this approach and creating a good atmosphere for connection between participants
  • To raise awareness of such human rights topics as children right, migration and life of people with limited abilities.

How did it go?

This was our second project in Ukraine about escape rooms. The training course was delivered by trainers Emir Shevkiiev, Julia Zaitseva-Kirk and Marko Boyko.

Our project was supported by the museum of Ukrainian diaspora, which provided us with the space to create our rooms. Our participants built 3 great escape rooms and we invited local people to come and play. At the open even we had around 30 guests, who had a chance to learn and play at the same time.

After the project was over we kept one of the rooms built for participants in order to let other people come and play. It worked for 3 months and attracted players who could feel "in the skin" of a person with limited abilities. During its work, the room was administered by Logos members and volunteers. This is the web-site of the room - http://escaperoom.logos.tilda.ws/

The rooms that participants built:

"Habibi migration"

Experience is the core of learning, escape room is the best experience and thus a great learning opportunity. In this case the topic is rights of migrants. Being in the room participants face a number of issues that are very likely to happen to migrants. They are often being treated like "less important" or "unimportant" beings and the goal of the game is to make people feel it and understand the whole seriousness of the situation by wearing the shoes of those, who have to leave their homelands in the search of better life. People may be sorry for others, who go through difficulties, but they never realize the essence of the issue unless they go through the same.

"Shit happens"

We want to teach people about the daily abuse and breaking of children's human rights. We want the player to go through the room with the feeling of being a child. The feeling of not being as human as the parents. This is done with the chaining at first, and then puzzle after puzzle that symbolizes the problems that children might face as they are growing older. A belt that symbolizes physical abuse and a computer that symbolizes the limitation of information.

"Superheroes wanted"

Hello everyone! Have you ever imagined yourself being a superhero? Today we will give you the possibility to become one and now you can choose your own superpower!

This room's goal is to raise awareness of people about people with disabilities.
We want players to better understand feelings of people with disabilities. To do that players will havwe to find a job, but they will have to do it with some obstacles they didn't think of before entering the room.

Below you can directly access toolboxes on the rooms made by participants

In each "toolbox" you can find following information:

  • Explanation of what is the room about
  • Description of storyline and puzzles

Memories from the project

Critical Thinking. Information hygiene. Poznan, Poland, 2018

Youth Exchange “Critical Thinking. Information hygiene” has been just finished. Good things always come to the end quickly. But let me share with you what I actually experienced: I gained lots of necessary information, met 32 enthusiastic and motivated people, learned some Hungarian, Slovakian and Czech, made good friends and created the new movement. How? Through the opportunity of international organization Visegrad Fund, which funded this YE.

This was an excellent chance for 32 youth people from Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Hungary to come together and plunge into the issue of media literacy, cognitive biases, raise the awareness and understanding of our cultures and countries.

Day by day we deal with the very simple to more serious issues. Various creative workshops led us to better understand the media influence and its effect. We all learned about different biases and how actually biased all people are. It all happens unconsciously. By judging Abigail’s decisions, we understood that not always we see the situation as it is, and we only evaluate everything from one perspective. Through the debate time, we tested our abilities to persuade people. Discussion of the current media situation in our countries made us more aware of how careful we should be with the media.

The biggest day was actually the OPEN EVENT, which was a rewarding moment for the participants. This day we showed and shared about our work done during the training course. It was amazing teamwork which turned in an online game “Do YOU KNOW YOURSELF?”, which we played online and after discussed our results and gave a clear explanation on biases. The colourful leaflets and posters were created about critical thinking. Lots of work has been done to translate the information which we had into Polish, Slovakian and Hungarian languages. The video team impressed everyone with their own creation of the notion “Critical Thinking”.

We have learned a lot and succeeded in a REALLY good result. All these we achieved due to the good work of our trainers Marko Boyko and Anna Golovchenko, who were always there leading us the right direction. We are grateful to the NGO “Logos Polska” for providing us with such opportunity to take part in the Youth Exchange, for support in preparation for the project. Finally, good things are happening for a reason. This good reason turned out to be us! Thanks to all people who were involved here and the organisation which made this event happen: Logos Polska, Centrum finanční gramotnosti, SYTEV, EBI - Egyesület Békéscsaba Ifjúságáért.

Critical thinking – clean mind. Lviv, Ukraine, 2018

The main aim of the youth exchange Critical Thinking Clean Mind was to gather young people from 6 countries who worked together to improve the international movement devoted to developing critical thinking and media literacy skills among young people and to create ideas for future activities and projects in terms of this movement.

At this YE, we shared the initial idea of the Skepsis movement and allowed participants to be part of creating this movement.

For seven days (24th of May - 3rd of June, 2018), we worked on the movement’s concept, vision, possible activities at local and international levels, project plans, etc. We also created simple tools which could help to develop critical thinking, media literacy and help with dealing with fakes and disinformation.

At the end of the Youth exchange, we ran an open event in Lviv, where we invited locals to learn about the project and critical thinking. We had over 40 guests at this event.

Have a look at the video below which was made during the open event in Lviv.

And here are some simple tips on improving your critical thinking and media literacy

As a result of this project, participants created various tools for developing critical thinking and media literacy. Theses tools include workshop, videos, infographics, quest, etc. You can find them as well as other materials on critical thinking in the Skepsis movement open folder:
